Here is a pair of fabulous old lion fire dogs/andrions which are made I believe from cast brass and feature a lion’s head with scrolled front feet.

They are rather large and heavy, weighing in at just under 8 kilos each!

They would perfect for a large fire basket but PLEASE NOTE: there is NOT a basket included in this sale.

I would date them to around 1850-1870 but I’m no expert.

They are in very nice antique condition with only some superficial age related oxidisation to the iron of the legs.

I have never cleaned the brass as I preferred the patina, which has built up over years and I didn’t want them to look too new. You could of course shine them if you preferred but once you’ve done it, you can’t undo it and it will take a long time for it to reach the same, rich level.

There’s a tin of baked beans (not included) in the main image to give some perspective on the actual size and the dimensions are as follows.
