This listing is for an 1830 Medal from "Thomason's Medallic Illustrations of the Holy Bible". This medal is titled "THE INTERPRETATION OF KING PHARAOHS TWO DREAMS BY JOSEPH". There were 60 different medals produced in this series by Sir Edward Thomason of Birmingham, England with each one depicting a scene taken from "Old Master" paintings illustrating scenes from the beginning of Genesis to the Ascension of Christ. The artistry on this medal was inspired by the Italian painter, Guido Reni, and is number 17 in the series. Guido Reni is famous for his painting of Joseph and Potiphar's wife. Most of these medals were made of white metal but this feels like it is heavily lead based. The coloring of this medal is somewhere in between the two series of photos in the listing.

Obverse: illustration of Pharaoh sitting on his throne with advisors listening to Joseph interpret his dreams.
Reverse: "1720 BC" with a history of Potiphar, Joseph and Pharaoh in Egypt.

This Pharaoh and Joseph medal weighs 166 grams and measures 2 7/8" across with a thickness of 3/16". This nearly 200-year old has a small dent on one side and signs of wear/aging plus someone has written in red pen a number along the edge. Please see the photos for detail on condition. Money-back guarantee.

Thomason was divinely inspired to "promote the glory of God by impressing the Word of God...It appeared to me, in 1827, that I might, through God's assistance, become a humble instument to effect a unique and novel medallic work to further promote glory of God...with emblematic and symbolic designs, and with a short condensed explanation on the reverse of the medals, and thereby be the first author of a Medallic Bible".
