Beautiful and early Loetz Onyx vase or bowl, circa 1888.

It is 12.4cm high x 21cm wide. Weighs 743g.

Condition: the vase looks pristine but has a small rub or graze to the exterior which has produced a very fine, almost imperceptible hairline crack to the interior white glass layer only - see photos for condition. No other issues.

Onyx was one of a series of new decors introduced by Loetz at this time, made to resemble various semi-precious stones.

It was the period of 'Historicism' in Bohemia 1880-1898 which aimed to succeed the ideals of lost epochs technically and optically in luxury goods.
