Map Title - Geologic Map of New York
Date - 1901
Type - 12 Geological Maps
Issued by - University of the State of New York, New York State Museum, by Frederick Merrill, State Geologist

Comments - This appears to be an extremely scarce volume of maps. I can only find 3 other copies in on-line sources, one in a library in France, another in a library in Germany, and another is listed by a book dealer in the United States. My offering is not a bound volume, rather each of the 12 maps in the series are loose, and there is no indication that they were ever bound. One of the 12 maps served also as the Title Page (see condition below). They were printed using a photo-lithographic process, done by Julius Bien and Company.

Description - The volume is complete in 12 colored maps, and all 12 are included in this offering. Each is printed on fabric-backed paper. Various rock formations are shown in a variety of colors and cross-hatching. Also shown are streams, roads, names of towns and areas, etc.

Size - about 20x24" (about 51x61cm). An interesting note is that the volumes claimed to be in the possession of European Libraries are shown in a slightly different size format.

Condition - .Quite Nice, some edge and other relatively light wear. The principal exception is the map titled Ontario West, which has darkened considerably from storage since it served as the Title Page for the volume and was on top. However, this map only shows the Canadian border of Lake Ontario, as the New York border is in the center of the Lake. Therefore, no actual New York geologic information on this page. One map has age spotting in lower right corner area only.
