BLACK BEARS
Black Bears are the most numerous member of the bear family in North America and can be found from coast to coast. Black Bears are not always black; their coats can also be cinnamon, blonde and brown. Brown colored bears are often mistaken for Grizzlies, a larger species. Adult Black bear males weigh between 200 and 600 pounds, females between 150 and 400 pounds. Black Bears feed on grasses, roots, plants and berries in addition to small rodents and carcasses. There are an estimated 500 - 600 black bears inhibiting Yellowstone National Park and can be seen most anywhere inside the park.
