DESCRIPTION
There were two things that shaped Zachariah’s career as a photographer. First there was the pomp and ceremony of events in Wellington such as New Zealand being declared a Dominion in 1907. This ushered in a buoyant period in our history which became known as the Edwardian era. Coinciding with these times, the ubiquitous postcard made its appearance and began to enthrall everyone as something that was eminently collectable. Zachariah capitalised on this situation by issuing limited editions of real photo postcards, which featured all manner of activities and events. Because of their ephemeral nature, Zacahriah’s postcards are now hard to locate and seldom turn up in our picture libraries. It was only through a network of postcard enthusiasts that this book became a reality. Without their assistance, this book would never have seen the light of day.
