Paul McCartney's 1963 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass

Paul McCartney played two left-handed 500/1 basses during most of The Beatles' career. Beginning with a 1961 model, he then ordered another once he realised he needed a spare and found the Hofner to be the only left-handed bass available. This 1963 model is the one that became known as The Beatle bassFirst seen during Ready Steady Go! in October 1963, this later model soon became his main instrument and the one with which most people would recognise him. It was used for almost all The Beatles’ remaining live performances, television appearances and many recordings until the break up.
