Wardle is not so well known for his figurative painting, but in fact did include people and in particular, fashionable ladies, in several of his oil paintings. In this engraving he has retained his great affection for the dogs and the two shotguns resting against the old post and rail fence and the game clearly live up to the title of the work "Ready for Home". The two Setters clearly are attached to the unseen owners of the guns and dogs, whilst the fashionable ladies own Toy Spaniel is showing equal interest.

Please do not confuse this item with the "cheap" litho reproductions you may well see offered elsewhere on eBay. This is a real hand coloured engraving, printed the traditional way on heavyweight fine art engraving paper.
