From the long-retired Night Skyline series, I have assembled KMART exclusive SYNTHETIC RUBBER TIRE RACER Slider Petrolski SIDEWALL SHINE RACER NO. 74, and SIDEWALL SHINE HAULER #13. What good is a hauler without its racer? Get them here, both at once, and save your fretting for something else.
This bundle lot of two (2) includes the SIDEWALL SHINE hauler and its rubber tire racer. Made by Mattel. New, in package. Both are 1:55 scale diecast but the trailer on the hauler is, of course, plastic.
I have to stress the made-by-Mattel part because there has been a huge influx of 'tribute' haulers on the market lately. Many of them do not pretend to be authorized versions but, as a potential buyer, you should look (and think) twice before making your choice, regardless of what it is. I'll give you a hint to help made a quick assessment on whether a hauler is legitimately made by Mattel or not: if you are looking at a Piston Cup or World Grand Prix hauler with Mack's square face on it and it ISN'T Mack, it's not made by Mattel. Other questions to ask yourself might be: (a) Does it have a box? (b) Who is selling it? (c) Is this price for real? Cost is obviously a consideration but if it seems like too good a deal to be true, it is. (Although that applies only if it matters to you who made it and from what. It's not my place to cast aspersions.)
I can tell you for certain is that the stuff I'm selling here is the real deal. And that you're paying for the quality assurance of a name brand and everything that brand stands for in production standards. I don't work for Mattel and I never will -- I'm just someone with a desire to share my stuff, knowledge and affection for a particular line of toys -- but I'd like you to know what you need to know to make the best purchasing decision for you and/or your children. Piston Cup haulers have not been manufactured by Mattel since well before Cars 2 hit theatres. The only exception to that rule was Mack, briefly, in a box that had the London skyline as a background, and that is no doubt the reason all recent Piston Cup and World Grand Prix unauthorized haulers are wearing his face. There has now been a very recent re-release of the Dinoco hauler and Mack with a exclusive-to-Walmart hauler on the 2014 card. But I digress....
SIDEWALL SHINE NO. 74 SYNTHETIC TIRES RACER: Card in good condition. It lays flat, no scoring or scratching in the art. All four corners are intact but the top left has a small spot where it shows wear, both from the front and the back. Smooth outer edge. The blister is level and centred and shows mild wear on the front and back. Date of manufacture is 2010.
Inside the package, SYNTHETIC RUBBER TIRE RACER Slider Petrolski SIDEWALL SHINE RACER NO. 74 looks good but there does seem to be a lot of grit on his surface and some of it might be embedded in the paint itself. It's hard for me to tell through the package. Please examine the photos supplied for more detail. As this is a single-quantity item listing, the photos provided have been taken of the actual item for purchase and none other.
SIDEWALL SHINE HAULER #13: Box in fair to good condition. Manufactured in 2009 and it does show its age. It is NOT wrecked in any way, shape or form but it does show shelf wear in the form of several areas of rub on the surface of the clear, plastic portions and some frayed corners on the cardboard parts. There are, however, no cracks, crinkles, creases, rips or tears or anything like that. (It's not like it would embarrass you to give this to someone as a gift, if you know what I mean.) It is perfectly sealed and looks fine in that respect but if you wanted to talk in-the-box-type-display, this is probably not the package for you... unless you had a nice spot saved near the back of the curio cabinet, maybe next to that old antique silver-framed picture of your wife's great-great-great-uncle who no one actually liked. I'm just kidding, I'm sure somebody somewhere liked him. Of additional interest is that this box is an example of INTERNATIONAL packaging: it has ten languages that I can count. All the way from plain, old English to what is likely Greek and Russian. Learn how to say "Collect them all!" ten different ways.
Inside the package, SIDEWALL SHINE HAULER #13 looks great but for a few very minor flaws: his satellite dish is ever-so-slightly crooked and there are some dark specks on or in this paint, some dust has settled on him. One sideview mirror looks like it got a thicker coat of paint than it really needed, and there are two bubbles in the decal on his cap. Turning our attention to the trailer, I see a mild ripple in one corner of one sticker but the rest are firmly attached. If you're familiar with the Piston Cup haulers, you already know how they work: the sides of the trailer lift and you pull out a work area and flip down the ramp to drive your racer in and out. The little accessories that you see inside are moulded plastic and non-removable. (The freight haulers with that Peterbilt-style cab are different. Think Gil, Paul Valdez or Jerry "Mack? I ain't no Mack. I'm Peterbilt!" Recycled Batteries for examples of that.)
Please bear in mind that it took me 20 minutes to accumulate this list of so-called faults under crime-scene-investigator-type scrutiny. With it, it is not my intention to discredit the value of this lot; to the contrary, you can purchase it and rest assured you are getting quality items. And they will stay that way in transport to you. I take equal care in packaging your items for shipment. I'm not squeezing these things into a too-small kleenex box and kicking it all the way to the post office. All the items that I sell go into an appropriate shipping container lined in packaging material AFTER they are individually wrapped in bubblewrap. I'm not fooling around with these things once you've bought them. They are yours, and I respect that.
It's a nice lot, even if I do say so myself. Some lucky little (or big) guy (or girl) will be happy to see them.
