The Beatles’ Guitars from the Apple rooftop concert 30th January 1969

Paul McCartney’s Hofner 500/1 was first seen during Ready Steady Go! in October 1963. Known as ‘The Beatle Bass’ it became his main instrument and the one with which he would be most recognised. It was used almost exclusively until the breakup. By the time of the rooftop concert Paul had removed the pickguard and applied a Fender Bassman sticker.
John Lennon purchased this Epiphone Casino in 1966 and used it as his main instrument during the remainder of his time with The Beatles. The pickguard was removed and the body sanded to bare wood whilst recording The White Album in 1968.
The first Rosewood Telecaster was Fender’s gift to George Harrison. It was flown to the UK in time to be used almost exclusively on the Get Back sessions, the Abbey Road album, Let It Be album and movie, then in The Beatles’ final live performance on the roof of their Apple building where these three famous guitars were used together as The Beatles played Get Back, Don’t Let Me Down, I’ve Got A Feeling, The One After 909 and Dig A Pony.

These are not photographs, they are hand drawn by George Morgan following extensive research.
