For an expensive pair of boots there hasn’t been any detailed review or description for these. I have purchased my own pair of Yeezy 950 boots and would like to share with you a detailed description of what exactly you’re purchasing.

The box – They come in a very large military green square shoe box. The box is plain apart from a Yeezy 950 M sticker on one side. The sticker displays the size in various countries, the product code, it states the colour and there is a barcode with an EAN/UPC number which can be scanned at any Adidas store to confirm its authenticity. The box pulls apart into two sections the base and the lid and is quite tight and tricky to come off, its need a bit of a shake and pull down.

Opening the box- Once the box lid is off you can see the silhouette of the boots completely covered in a tissue paper. The first thing that hits you is the smell; it’s a really nice pleasant smell of a brand new rubber boots. On top of the tissue paper are two folded plain black bag drawstring shoe bags, one for each boot and a plain black envelope like packet. Within the packet is a set of spare laces. The shoe bags feel as if they’re waterproof but this is untested and not stated in any advertising.

First look – Once you’ve unpacked the Yeezy 950 boots from the tissue paper you will notice that they were placed a thick piece of black foam cushioning at the bottom of the shoe box (similar to the foam cushioning you get when you buy a laptop)

Then you have in front of you a large military type boot. They look like they are heavy but are no different in weight then a pair of Timberland boots. The exact weight of each boot (uk size 10) is 894 grams so slightly under 1kg each (this is a normal weight for a boot or shoe)

The first thing you notice is the size of the heel. The boots have a very large heel; in fact with these on you’ll look 2-3 inches taller. The rubber on the heel has a subtle texture and horizontal lines going around it similar to the brush strokes on a painting. The rubber goes up onto the upper of the boot with the subtle texture following, this time with the lines slanting down from the rear heel to the front toe area. On the upper toe area you have the traditional raised 3 lines to show that it’s a duck boot.

So what exactly is a duck boot? According to online research a duck boot is a boot with an upper made from a water repellent fabric called duck cloth canvass (which this may be again unverified) and a rubber sole.

The canvas feels like it’s coated with something and feels waterproof from touching it. I can’t see any water going through this at all but again this is untested.

Around the outer of the tongue and going all the way up to the top of the boot is piece of suede which gives a nice detailing. Around the suede are 14 lace holes (7 on each side) and the laces are chunky premium quality laces. They criss-cross and give a cool military look to the boot.

On the top of the tongue is a suede tag and on the right boot there is subtle adidas branding and on the left boot there is subtle YEEZY branding. The suede patch wraps into the boot and there the branding is reversed so the one which says adidas on the outside says YEEZY on the inside and vice versa.

On the rear of the boot there is a piece of the canvas stitched on to create a “grab section” so you can slip your fingers in and carry the boots. Looking at the boots from the rear they look really narrow please don’t be deceived by this, it looks misleading and this isn’t the case at all as the canvas gives it plenty of play and feet go in easily.( which I’ll talk about in the next section)

Underneath is the welt (bottom) which has an intricate design for traction, I can’t see many slips happening with these on. There is further adidas YEEZY branding underneath the boot.

Looking and feeling inside the boot I have noticed these have an inner sock liner. There is a heel tab at the front behind the tongue (so it’s a tongue tab?) and that’s attached to the inner sock liner. Inside it feels like a stretchy lycra type material. Finally there is what feels like a leather or PU sole which has adidas YEEZY branding in a gold colour.

Wearing the boots – Ok so for me personally I want to be able to put my boots on and take them off quickly and easily – in fact it’s one of the most important things I look at when picking footwear.

The Yeezy 950 boot is the easiest boot I’ve ever put on in my life. You just pick them up and pull the boot into your foot very easily. You’ll have both boots on and laced up in 30-40 seconds, there’s no need to undo the laces from their lace holes at all so for this style and look of this boot and considering how high they are, that is amazing.

The boot for me from behind comes up around 4 inches UNDER my calf muscle. They lace up easily but don’t really tighten on the top they remain quite loose but inside they’re a perfect fit so buy your USUAL size as they are a true to fit boot. I have tried a half size and a full size down and they don’t fit. The fact that the top was quite loose concerned me initially but then I realised that this was the special feature with this boot.

So wearing the boot for the first time, well my first thoughts were it feels and looks like a space boot!

Initially I thought “no they are not for me I’m not going to wear them” but after a while you keep looking at them and you think… “Actually these are pretty special”.

They’re so different and unique with the massive heel and especially for a man to wear this type of boot. You can wear your jeans over them but they look cool with the boots over the jeans, it’s a new look for me and a new look for men (women have done this with boots for years).

Walking with the boot takes a bit of getting used to. If you’ve never purchased and worn a high boot or welly before then these will feel strange at first but you’ll get used to them.

 If you’ve experience with them then you’ll be really surprised with these. They’re very comfortable. They don’t poke in or dig into your legs. Yes you can feel the restriction on the leg sometimes (especially if you’re a sneaker/ trainer person) but these have no flaws. No pain at the end of day. No bruises or marks on legs. No chaffing or anything like that. They are really that good.  You’ll hear a squelchy noise when walking with them but I think this is the canvas moving around with your steps and settling itself on the boot.

2 points to note - sitting on low chairs can be a frustrating as you feel restrictions on your legs and also driving with them can be fiddly if you have a manual car putting the clutch down all the time you have to get the angle right to stop a restriction but again as with anything I think you’ll just get used to them like you would get used to any new shoe.

Price Tag - Are these expensive boots? Yes they’re a lot of money. Are they worth it? Well that depends why you are buying these, If your just want a functional good quality duck boot then there’s plenty of those out there for a fraction of the price of the Yeezy 950.

If you appreciate fashion and the latest trends and you want to make a statement and stand out from the crowd then these are 100% worth it.

You’ll be asked by friends and family what you are wearing, and if they don’t know when you tell them they’ll google them on their phone and say wow!

When you walk into a town people you will notice people taking glances at them and looking away, others will just look straight at you and when you’re walking you’ll hear whispers behind you “those are the new Yeezy boots”.

If you happen to go into shoe shop the staff will ask “are they the new Yeezy boots?” I was told in one store by the sales person there’s no point me looking around the shop, there is nothing in there better than what I’m wearing!

These boots are a beautiful statement piece and will look great with any outfit.
