Chris Froome took the sixth Tour de France stage win of his career by winning stage eight with an impressive display of descending skill in the Pyrenees to win by13 seconds where the defending champion surprised all his opponents by attacking on the summit of the day's final climb then pulled away on the 15km descent to move to the top of the general classification, where he remained throughout the event.
Chris continued to wear the yellow jersey despite an accident with a TV motorcycle on the final climb on stage 12 where he was reduced to running up the Chalet Reynard then finally crossing the line on his third bike.
The individual time trials were the big wins where Chris was able to consolidate his lead on stage 13, then extend it by over 20 seconds with an outstanding win in the mountain time trial.
Despite falling on the final descent on stage nineteen he was fortunate to have the replacement bike of team-mate Geraint Thomas to use to complete the stage without losing position and win the event for the third time and the second in succession.
