Why Motherland Spices? The world is smaller and smaller every day; we can travel these days whenever we want and go wherever we want. But the world is also bigger and bigger. Opportunities to try different cuisines and see different cultures are only a click away. Lots of things in our life we take for granted and we miss them when they are not we us any more. One of them are definitely flavours from our Motherland. These days, we are moving around the world much faster than before, but we always want to come back home. And sometimes home is not where we live. I am one of them. That is the main reason why Motherland Spices is established. Many people don’t live in their motherland any more, in their homes, but still embrace their cuisine and culture. Motherland Spices exist for all of them, to bring them: “Flavours of your home, if you live in the world”
All our recipes are based on old traditional family secrets and long research. We are not big corporate but small family business and we want to stay that way. It’s the only way, to bring you traditional, hand milled spices, hand-mixed and packed when your order comes in. It’s the way which cannot be made industrial.
Enjoy your food and remember the time when you said to your neighbour: “My wine is stronger than your grappa”

All our spices are sourced from prominent suppliers from around the world with the best and consistent quality. We prepare our blends on order, so with  an extra one day for delivery, we guarantee freshness and high quality.

As our world has an obvious concern for MSG, we have made a co-operative effort to remove MSG from all but some of our products. Although, there is still the significance of MSG being a flavour enhancer and allowing things to taste better. We have also discovered that when we removed the MSG from our products, customers would show dissatisfaction of the taste difference. These customers were also unaware the product had not contained MSG. Currently, only 3 of our products contain MSG. We try to be clear and up front with our customers about ingredients in our products, even though the government allows us only to confirm salt, sugar, MSG, garlic, onion and “spices”. At the bottom of the products descriptions are the ingredients which are found.

We recommend you to purchase a suitable number of individual products you expect using within a year. Products you have purchased after a year will not make you ill; they will just not have the same great purpose. A great way to identify whether they are up to date is to smell them. If they don’t have a scent then its time to toss them away. A usable way of throwing them away is applying them onto your grill when cooking. This releases the last amount of volatile oils that add flavour into your food.

You need to keep your spices out of the sunlight in a cool and dark place, out of heat and away from moisture and condensation. They need to be stored in airtight containers.

Spices don’t have an expiry date; never the less they can lose their flavour and aroma. Whole spices can last for around 2 years, grounded spices 1 year and leafy herbs 1-2 years. Salt will last indefinitely. Aroma will last longer if you store them in airtight containers. If you buy them in open bag they will last for 2 weeks. Transfer them in airtight containers.

Our spices and spice blends don’t contain any preservatives, flavour boosters, anti-caking agents or any other non-natural ingredients. Only if we use an ingredient already containing some of the above, we clearly declare on the label. If your spices turn clumpy simply break up with the spoon and continue using
