Cicely Mary Barker was born 28th June 1895 in Croydon in Surrey. An eipileptic, she was cared for at home by her parents. She began her art education as a girl with correspondence courses and instruction at the Croydon School of Art. Her first book, Flower Fairies of the Spring, was published in 1923 as she continued her art training at Croydon School of Art between the 1920s & 1940s, eventually accepting a teaching role there. Spending her later years in Storrington, Sussex, she died at Worthing Hospital on 16th February 1973, aged 77 years.
