20" Kathe Kruse Doll Type VIII "Deutsches Kind" c. 1929-1948

We love Kathe Kruse dolls for their serene and calming presence. Known as "Deutsches Kind" or German Child, this 20" model was the first Kathe Kruse doll with a swivel head with one seam up the back of the head and hand tied human hair wig.

The doll has oil painted facial features including brown eyes, back brown and black upper eyeliner, accented nostrils, closed painted mouth, and a brown human hair wig. The head is hard molded cloth with a vertical seam up the back.

The cloth body is soft stuffed, and much more slender than other Kruse dolls. The bottom of one foot is stamped with the Kathe Kruse signature and 1896, the other foot with 98 in pencil.
There is stabilizing patching on the body on one arm and one leg. A tear at one elbow shows the reindeer hair stuffing. Some staining here an there on the body and some wear. Disc jointing at shoulders and hips.
