A rare signed etching by listed Yorkshire artist John Edward (Jack) Hewer, (b.1889- ?)  One of a small collection of his works that I am listing, most of which have a Bronte connection.

This is a view of a shepherd sitting beneath an oak tree with his flock.

Hand signed in pencil by the artist lower right.  Numbered 3 of an edition of 100 impressions.  Titled 'The Old Oak, Bolton Abbey' and also inscribed bottom left 'In the Deer Park'.

The etching is in good condition having been stored in a folio for many years though there is faint creasing at the corners. Printed on cream coloured laid paper.

The sheet measures 25.5 x 33.5cm, the image size is 17 x 22.5cm.

Postage £3 in the UK, £8 to mainland Europe and £12 to the USA.  (These prices for standard postage, tracking will be an additional cost).  I will of course combine postage if more than one similar item is purchased.

Jack Hewer lived in Halifax and was an etcher, illustrator and commercial artist.  He exhibited in the 1920s at the Royal Cambrian Academy, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the Royal Scottish Academy.   In 1931 the Shakespeare Head Press at Oxford published a collection of the novels of the Bronte sisters with 32 illustrations by Hewer.
