Scarce Antique Pre WW1 Army Tunic - Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry  - 1913

~Welcome to my auction for this fabulous and scarce George V era scarlet dress tunic~

This is a wonderful item for a military collector, especially someone interested in the Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry.

The sale consists of a scarlet tunic dated 1913 with original buttons, collar badges and shoulder badges.

As can be seen in the pictures the tunic carries full insignia for a private of the regiment - all the buttons to the front and on the epaulettes are of Kings crown general service pattern - the same pattern buttons are also present to the rear skirt - as can be noted in the pictures most of the buttons have toned a very dark colour with the exception of one which is the same pattern but a later replacement - the shoulder insignia is the two part variety with the title and the light infantry strung bugle - this is present to both shoulders and this has also toned dark.

The collar badges are the traditional 'one and all' Cornwall badge, judging by their colour they are a matched pair.

The whole tunic is manufactured in scarlet wool with a blanket lining - it has white facings (collar, cuffs and epaulettes) which are of the correct pattern for the regiment.

There is an internal label still present which dates the tunic to April 1913 and states that the size is for a waist of 32" and a chest measurement of 36".

I'm wondering if this tunic was ever properly issued due to the fact that 3 of the 6 buttons on the rear skirt still have the remains of their tissue paper present.

The condition of the tunic is generally excellent given its age - other than some very minor age related soiling the only other fault to mention is a tiny moth hole to the right front skirt and some very minor tracking around it (this can be seen in the pictures provided).

In common with almost all Victorian and early 20th century army tunics the size is small so you'd need to have a fairly small frame for you to wear this item - I have sold an antique tunic to someone that wanted to wear it so if you require specific dimensions please contact me for further information.
