Purchased in 1967 from Dan Erlewine for his ‘54 Les Paul and $100, this was the 1959 Les Paul Standard that Mike Bloomfield used as a member of Electric Flag, in live performances and whilst recording the Super Session album in 1968.

Jeff Beck bought this blonde ‘54 Esquire whilst The Yardbirds were touring with The Walker Brothers. It’s instantly recognisable by the deep contours inflicted by the previous owner who had shaved the body to give it the shape of a Stratocaster. Beck used his Esquire on influential Yardbirds tracks including I’m a Man, Heart Full of Soul, Over Under Sideways Down and Shapes of Things.

Eric Clapton used this Cherry Red Gibson ES-335 extensively throughout his career with The Yardbirds, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith and during his solo career. It became known as the ‘Cream Guitar’ after a roadie stencilled the word CREAM on its case. 

 Purchased in Texas in 1973, this heavily abused early 60s Fender Stratocaster was Stevie Ray Vaughan’s favourite and is the guitar he was most associated with. Rebuilt countless times, it was originally fitted with a white pickguard and right handed tremolo bar but Stevie fitted the left handed gold tremolo in 1977, giving more playing freedom.

Many guitarists tried to recreate the Peter Green sound but it remained a mystery for many years until his 59 Gibson Les Paul Standard was inspected to find the tone was created by out of phase magnets inside the neck pickup. In the early 70s this holy grail of Les Paul’s was sold to Gary Moore who used it to full effect on Parisienne Walkways.
