This pendant depicts Lilith, the dark moon goddess/demon of ancient Sumerian, Babylonian and Hebrew mythology.  This particular depiction of Lilith is inspired by an ancient Babylonian stone relief depicting a winged goddess with bird feet, wearing a crown and holding the symbol for power and greatness in both hands.  Measuring approximately 1 3/4" tall (without the bale) and 1" wide (at its widest point), the Lilith pendant is made of bronze.  The pendant is single sided.

Symbolism: Associated with the waning moon and the realm of Night, Lilith is the dark aspect of the Great Goddess.  Also known as the 'Lady of the Beasts', Lilith rules wild places and all who inhabit them.  She represents the animal, instinctive side of human nature.  The numerical value of Lilith's name equals the Hebrew word for 'screech', and Lilith is associated with the screech owl, another creature of the night.  The consummate seductress, Lilith has been associated with both the Queen of Sheba and Helen of Troy.  According to Hebrew tradition, Lilith was the first wife of Adam, god having created them as twins joined at the back.  Created as his equal, Lilith refused to be ruled by Adam; and when she saw that he would gain power over her, she uttered the ineffable name of god, grew wings, and flew from Eden.  She flew into the wilderness which she still rules.

Bronze: Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper.  Two of the magical metals of the Ancients, tin is the sacred metal of Jupiter and copper the sacred metal of Venus. Being a combination of both metals, bronze will combine the energies of both planets and the deities connected with them.  Because of its gold coloration, bronze also has a strong solar connection and can be used as a substitute for gold.  Being the dominate metal before the advent of iron (the Bronze Age), bronze is a faerie friendly metal.

Dryad Design: Dryad Design is the 'soul work' of artist Paul Borda.  All designs are original, beginning with personal inspiration (including ritual and meditation) followed by extensive research.  Dryad's jewelry designs include imagery from Celtic, Norse, Italian and Sumerian mythologies.  Through his work, Paul hopes to support and inspire earth-based spirituality and to create images that resonate with all seekers of peace and beauty.
