Triplett 631 Series assembled VTVM test probe set

(this does not replace the VOM Test Probes as the VOM side of this unusual meter only requires standard Banana style test leads, which do not use a shielded conductor like the VTVM Leads see my newly made "old school" test leads if you need leads for the VOM portion of this meter)

The Triplett 631 series probe is very specific requiring a unique lead configuration

This meter uses 1 Probe with a 1 Meg Ohm Resistor plus a Common Lead:

The original design of the probe is quite awkward and due to it's rigid design protruding from the front of the meter it is easily damaged and presents undue strain to the internal components of the meter, it is easily the most unweildy connection I have seen, this design is intended to address the problems, while utilizing readily available modern parts:

VTVM Probe - RG174 Coax Cable to a Red Test Probe with 1 Meg Ohm Resistor

Common Probe - Black Test Probe Wire to Black Test Probe

Both Wires terminate in a small housing where the common wire is connected to the shield of the VTVM wire - which terminates in 2 Banana Plugs

The unit is presented in a Labeled, Retail Quality, Reusable, 4 Mil Poly Ziplock Bag and is wrapped with a Reusable Velcro Strip to keep the leads organized and ready.

This is hand assembled by me from the following components:

1 Pair of Genuine Philmore Test Probes - 1 Red/1 Black

2 Rubber Banana Plugs

1 Meg Ohms Resistor

2 Laminated Self Adhesive Probe Labels and Clear Heat Shrink Tubing to cover the probe labels, resulting in a professional and durable setup (see photos)

1 36" length of RG174 Coaxial Wire for DC Lead (Very Flexible - makes a great test lead)

1 36" Length of 18 Gauge Black Rubber Test Lead Wire (PowerWerx brand Very Flexible - High Quality) for the Ground Lead

Labeled Plastic Junction Box

The original instructions specify shielded cable for the DC lead, the original supplied wire was a coaxial microphone style wire, many people use either standard (unshielded) test probe wire for the leads or a shielded coaxial cable, Shielded cable is best for accurate measurements in sensitive circuits with a VTVM so I Supply a 36" piece of black RG174 for the VTVM lead and a 36" piece of black test probe wire for the Common

I have shipped these probes and kits to several dozen countries and have received nothing but praise for bot the kits and probes, I think you too will be pleased with this simple and durable set to get that old meter back in service!

I build and sell many probe and test lead sets click the link for current listings available in my Store:
