Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 Lens - 1979 V4 "KING OF BOKEH” + HOOD - SUPERB GLASS!

Available here is a vintage 1979 Canadian made Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 Wide Angle Lens. An example of the forth version Summicron for Leica M Rangefinders, this lens is a seven (7) element design with the additional element placed between the diaphragm and the rear cemented pair. It is a solid, light-weight black anodized lens with excellent, unmarked optics. The lens barrel show the marks of normal use. Serial number 2976216, it is similar in looks to the first version. The aperture and focus rings operate smoothly. Though it predates 6-bit encoding or the use of aspherical element designs by a significant margin this lens is perfect for film or digital implementation.

From “Leica Collector’s Guide” 2nd Edition by Dennis Laney:

“Summicron 35mm f/2

Fourth Version: 1979, from No. 2974251. A seven-element layout, the extra element being placed in front of the second cemented pair behind the diaphragm. The light-weight black anodized mount is very compact and only accepts E39 filters. A silver-chrome option was added in 1993.”

The Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 version 4 is classified as the “King of Bokeh” by Leicaphiles and was produced from1979 through 1997 when it was replaced by the current ASPH version of the lens.

From an online dictionary

Bokeh: noun - a Japanese term of the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of a photographic image.”

From a German Leica-centric website:

“Bokeh - The visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image, especially as rendered by a particular lens: It's a matter of taste and usually photographers discuss a 'nice' or 'pleasant' bokeh (the out-of-focus area is always unsharp why the quality discussed is if one likes the way it renders or not by a particular lens: Some lenses make highlights round, some look like stop-signs in shape, others make them more silky with less actual edges).ORIGIN from Japanese 'bo-ke' which mean 'fuzziness' or ‘blur.’"

As an added bonus, this lens ships to you with a Leica GMBH polycarbonate, clip-on lens hood #12524 and a rear lens cap. This lens is an excellent shooter’s example of late 20th century Canadian lens design and manufacturing prowess. The Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 will be a joy to use with your Leica Rangefinder camera.
