OPTOLYTH binoculars rapidly gained popularity when they arrived on the U.K. market about 50 years ago. Hunters, birdwatchers and naturalists took to them enjoying their superb clarity and robust German construction.

This listing is for an OPTOLYTH 7 x 50 rubber armoured roof prism binocular. Rare on the second hand market, this model comes from the range later known as the ROYAL with some models still available today at around £900!! This 7 x 50 version is probably the rarest and lightest of the breed, the 8 x 56 and 9 x 63 being slightly `less rare` and considerably heavier! These roof prisms proved to be favourites with naturalists and hunters or anybody else requiring a top performing instrument in poor light conditions. They do a great job of grabbing the available light in dawn and dusk conditions. These OPTOLYTHS have spawned many cheaper copy cat designs, some of which are actually very good, but this is the real thing with great performing optics.

The design features dual focusing controls, OPTOLYTH`s own lens coatings (breitband vergutung) and rubber fold down eyecups for spectacle wearers. This OPTOLYTH is in excellent condition – not too far from `mint` condition with great glass and smooth mechanical operation. There is no case, but the original OPTOLYTH branded rainguard is present, plus a good leather neckstrap and some non-original but good fitting objective lens caps. A new microfibre lens cloth is supplied.

Defects are really very few: some paint rub & loss from around the ocular assemblies; a few other very light exterior marks; possibly a few internal dust specks.

i take great care examining, using and describing the binoculars i sell, and always get a second opinion. however, i am not a professional and my description is based on my experience and honest assessment; most examples i sell are at least 35 years old and there may be other defects.......also, please remember, everyone`s eyes are different.....

OPTOLYTH`s 7 x 50 roof prism is really rare and so very hard to value, I think I`ve set the price of this very nice used example very fairly bearing in mind its condition and performance, but make me a very very close offer if you prefer.

Any questions – just ask – I always respond.

I have other good retro binoculars listed – take a look - I always combine to make shipping costs as sensible as possible.
