The Beatles’ Guitars

George acquired his Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean just as The Beatles were about to conquer the world. He used it on numerous recordings and live appearances throughout 1964 and 1965, notably on recordings of Ticket to Ride, Baby's in Black and I Feel Fine.

Presented to George prior to The Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, the distinctive jangly chiming sound of the Rickenbacker electric 12-string is instantly recognisable on most of the A Hard Days Night album and helped shape the sound of the 60's.

First seen during Ready Steady Go! in October 1963, this Hofner 500/1 soon became Paul's main instrument and became known as 'The Beatle bass', with which most people would recognise him and was used almost exclusively until the break up.

John purchased this Epiphone Casino in 1966 and used it as his main instrument during the remainder of his time with The Beatles. In 1968 whilst making the White Album, Lennon had the pickguard removed and sanded to bare wood.

This Rickenbacker 325 Capri is the one most associated with John Lennon through the years. Purchased in 1960 and used exclusively for the next four years,  this is the guitar John was playing when The Beatles made their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

These are not photographs, they are hand drawn by George Morgan following extensive research.
