The Beatles’ guitars & drums from the 1965 Shea Stadium concert

First seen during Ready Steady Go! in October 1963, this Hofner 500/1 became Paul’s main instrument and was known as ‘The Beatle bass’ with which he would be most recognised and was used almost exclusively until the breakup.

Presented to George in February 1964 prior to The Beatles’ first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, the distinctive jangly chiming sound of the Rickenbacker 360/12 is instantly recognisable on most of the A Hard Days Night album and helped shape the sound of the 60’s.

Prior to leaving for their second American tour Ringo received his fourth Ludwig kit and the second with a 22” bass drum. With the bass drum came his fifth new Beatles drop-T logo drum-head. The logo was painted on a Ludwig Weather Master head, featuring a larger Ludwig logo which is heavier and appears lopsided.

This 1964 Rickenbacker Capri 325 was similar to John’s earlier model but with a thinner body, an extra balance control and an Accent vibrato.
