Antique Sterling Silver Flower "Dogwood" Thimble Waite, Thresher Co. * Circa 1890s This antique sterling thimble has a wide band deeply embossed with realistic flower designs. It's marked "Sterling" inside the top along with the star logo of the Waite, Thresher Co. of Providence, Rhode Island and the size (8). It's actually more a size 9 (15.5 mm diameter opening). This
thimble is
shown
on p. 118 (fig. 11) of Gay Ann Rogers' book American
Silver Thimbles.
She says Waite called it 'Dogwood Blossoms' but I'm from the south and
I can tell you it's not. The flowers look like violets but the leaves
are wrong. Anyone with an idea? The
condition is excellent, crisp with no holes, repairs or other damage.
It has
no personalization.
