This Eskimo in his kayak is missing his paddles (holes in the hands) and I am assuming the lump on the back is a seal. There are scratches and nicks on the unusual (rare) piece that need polishing if desired. There is also a piece of tape over the front of the kayak. See pictures for condition details.

The piece is signed by James Omiak. I found an article from 2015 online with a picture of him (or another Alaskan carver of same name) in Nome, Alaska at 82 years old. [James Omiak (Teller Native Corporation) James Omiak was born in Little Diomede in 1933; he is now a resident of Teller. James is 73 years young and has been happily living with Mary Killarzoac for many, many years. James has nine children: Fred, Brenda, Stella, Jimmy, Rudy, Dean Pushruk, Roy Agloinga, Diane Miller, and Susie Omiak. At the age of nine, James started carving bone and ivory. He learned from his uncle and watched what the other boys carved. James has loved carving ever since. During Eskimo dance practice he enjoys drumming and watching the dancers. James always has a smile for everyone he meets.] I have no other information about this piece. It is very old, but exact age is unknown. There are other pieces online signed "J. Omiak," but signatures are different. My conclusion is that the uncle or other relative was the carver of this stone piece.
