HISTORY

  • The Lotus, a water lily, is the flower customarily associated with ancient Egyptian culture. The blue lotus was the emblem of the god Nefertum of Memphis, lord of perfume.
  • It would open in the morning and close at dusk, signifying regeneration and rebirth. The white water lily, with its pungent smell, was not as popular as the blue variety, which possessed a more delicate fragrance. Both varieties could be found in calm waterways or pools.
