ASHANTI FERTILITY STATUE - GHANA

Dimension of 33.5 cms in total height on base.
The wooden base measures 8.5 x 6.5 x 2 cms.
Weight of eapproximately 0.220 kg without packaging.
Materials: Wood.
Presumed age: 1950s to 1960s.

Lovely Ashanti doll called "Akwaba" (which means "welcome" in most Akan ethnic groups), or fertility doll. We find on this statuette the ovoid head, identifiable among Ashanti dolls.

The piece presents a pair of legs, whereas for most of these dolls, the legs are materialized by a trunk.

Very beautiful patina, predominantly brown and shiny. Some marks and traces of wear.

The statue is proposed on a base.
