Rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1950’s Native American Plains / Sioux Indian Girl’s Bead Decorated, Fringed Hide Dress. This outstanding 20th century Sioux Girl’s Dress measures approx. 34" long overall with a 28” chest. The decoration is delicate and beautiful - all hand spot stitched and Dress features extensive rawhide fringe to the bottom of the yoke, openings of the arms and bottom of the hemline. There are also added double, applied rawhide drops on both the front and back of the dress below the waistline.


    This wonderful Sioux Hide Dress is thread sewn with spot stitched beadwork at the yoke and arms as well as a single, thin strip just above the hemline. The decoration is executed using red, green, pink, white, and light blue colored beads. It is made from a wonderfully soft, brain tanned hide and to say that it is stunningly beautiful may be an understatement.


    Provenance:This fantastic mid 20th century Sioux Girl’s Dress came to us from the Collection of William H. Saunders, M.D. and Putzi Saunders of Ohio.

    This rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1950’s Sioux Girl’s Bead Decorated Dress is in excellent  condition. All of the hide elements are exceptionally well preserved and sound – soft and supple and generally clean and crisp with a few small spots of light soiling. The beadwork is also exceptionally well preserved with no loss or damage as is all of the hide fringe. All elements of the Dress are original and there has been no repairs or restorations – the Dress is 100% original and 100% beautiful.
