WELCOME to my ebay store!

This beautiful black laquered wood and mother of pearl 'Oriental' style portable desk is circa turn of the 19th century. Made in Japan of black lacquered wood with inlaid mother of pearl in what looks to me like a stylized design of an island,or a tree...I am not sure;  with birds. Japanese and Chinese style was hugely popular in the Victorian era.
All original, this desk still has the compartments inside AND the locking key--and it's wonderful since the key works. Hinges could use tightening and a few additional screws, the removable cover inside needs new hinges there are paper type hinges there now which are original but need re attaching with easily purchased tiny hinges and/or new screws or nails. I have seen these as Hobby lobby and craft stores. If I find them I may fix this myself. It has the original velvet interior. All this is minor considering the age and overall condition of this antique desk/writing box. . It features a pen holder, compartments with lids and brass finials. Exterior design is very nice inlaid mother of pearl with very little loss that I can see, in a stylized bird and flower design.
These are wonderful for desk display and use, and for guest rooms fitted with writing materials.
Wonderful addition to an office with Asian or contemporary or Victorian decor as well. Dimensions are 15" wide by  12" deep. The height in back is  4" sloping to 3" height in front. See photos for condition, design plus  interior.
