How to prepare Yerba Mate
You can do it traditionally using gourd and bombilla or with a french press:

Traditional Method
  1. Fill a mate cup (guard) three quarters with yerba, shake, returning the cup to a slanted position.
  2. Add a little (1/4) cool water (room temperature) and allow the water to soak into the yerba. This causes the yerba leaves to swell and prevent blockage of the bombilla.
  3. Add a little bit of hot, not boiling water (80°C) until the half of the mate.
  4. Put the filtered end of the mate straw (bombilla) into the mate, at an angle. Don’t move the bombilla – each time you move the bombilla significantly the mate will be very bitter!
  5. Pour hot, not boiling water (80°C) into the yerba mate and drink.

 French Press
  1. Fill up your french press with yerba mate (for a mild brew add 1 tablespoon of yerba mate per cup – 250ml, add more if you want a stronger brew).
  2. Add a little cool water (room temperature) and allow the water to soak into the yerba.
  3. Pour hot, not boiling water (80°C) into the yerba mate. Let it sit for 2 - 3 minutes (or a little bit longer if you want a stronger brew).
  4. Slowly press the plunger down.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
