Beschreibung:


  Mit 31 Jahren starb der amerikanische Pianist William Kapell 1953 bei einem Flugzeugabsturz - sein früher Tod verwehrte ihm eine lange Karriere. Er galt Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts als einer der wichtigsten neuen amerikanischen Pianisten, neben Van Cliburn und Leon Fleisher.
Auf diesem Doppelalbum aus der Serie "reDiscovered" präsentiert Sony BMG Classical erstmals fünf bisher unveröffentlichte Stücke aus dem Repertoire Kapells: Debussys Suite Bergamasque, Chopins Barcarolle und Scherzo Nr. 1 in h-Moll, Prokofieffs Sonate Nr. 7 und "God Save the Queen". Außerdem sind zu hören: Rachmaninoffs Klavierkonzert Nr. 3, Bachs Suite in a-Moll BWV 818, Mussorgskys "Pictures at an Exhibition", Mozarts Sonate Nr. 17 KV 570 und Chopins Nocturne Op. 55 Nr. 2.
Die Aufnahmen entstanden kurz vor Kapells Tod auf seiner Tournee durch Australien. Sie wurden vollständig digital remastert, den Booklettext schrieb der Pulitzer Preis-Gewinner Tim Page.
