Rare Vintage Reversible Arts and Crafts Scenic Landscape Picture Agate or Jasper Pendant for Necklace, with a Silver Repousse Overlay. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box.
My husband and I disagree as to which of the two sides of this pendant is the primary one. It doesn't matter. Each side is lovely and capable of being displayed. The pendant is reversible.
On one side, it is a very lovely landscape picture jasper or agate pendant.
On the other, the artist has added a repousse branching silver tree in the foreground of the pendant as an overlay. Accordingly, with this addition and on this side, you see the landscape scene through the tree's branches.
The colors of the stone are southwestern and inviting. The silver repousse overlay image is graceful.
This may well be the product of a Native American artisan, very possibly a Navajo artisan, because there is a tradition of Native American artisans creating landscape scene pendants and brooches out of agate and jasper. I have no proof that this particular pendant is the work of any particular artist, however. Indeed, I have no proof as to its origins at all. The pendant is unsigned. Given its likely age and the fact that the pendant was meant to be reversible, this is not at all surprising.
Indeed, there is only one surprise about this pendant: the addition of the silver overlay image of the tree. That was a stroke of genius, in my opinion. I have not seen any other picture jasper or picture agate pendant like it.

NOTES: There are two things to note.
First, this is a vintage pendant with all that that entails. It has patina, wear, indeed all the hallmarks of age that confirm its provenance and make it even more special.
Second, the display box and mirror pictured in one photo are not included in the listing. They have been utilized for display purposes only. The same is true of the silver chains I have shown in many photos. I have used them to give you an idea of how the pendant would look on a vintage chain. In a word: spectacular, but I trust you will have a chain of your own that you want to use with it. So, the vintage chains that are shown in the photographs are not included in the listing.
Finally, a word about pricing: At the end of August, 2019, I advised those interested in this item that I had seriously undervalued it and would be raising the price after a period of fair notice. On November 25, 2019, I raised the price as indicated.
