Nikon P lenses first appeared in 1988 and are Ai-S manual focus lenses that have the electronic contacts of an autofocus lens to allow matrix metering. Historically positioned at the end of the purely manual focus era and the advent of autofocus, there are only three P lenses; the 500mm f/4P ED, the 1200-1700mm f/5.6-8P ED and the 45mm f/2.8P.
This lens is in great mechanical condition. Cosmetically the barrel and mount carry the marks of much use. The lens hood shows multiple rub marks. On the bottom, near the mount a former owner has inscribed his name. Optically the lens is in excellent condition. The glass and coatings are smooth and unabraded. There is minor internal dust. The CT-500 case is strong and secure with excellent interior integrity. It’s exterior shows normal signs of use. The internal filter holder carries a 39mm Nikon L39c UV filter. The original gel filter holder is included.
