The
item in view is a used vintage Asahi (Pentax) Optical Company TAKUMAR
35mm f/4 lens with M42 (42mm) screw mount. It is ideal for anyone
enjoying the use of early 35mm SLR photography. It's also interesting
for digital use on whatever you can hang it on using one of the myriad
of lens mount adapters available at online retailers.
This was the first ever wide angle from Asahi Optical / Pentax and
distinguished itself by having only a Manual Aperture, which is a feature
shared only with Telephoto 300mm lenses and above. All other Takumars
had a pre-set Aperture mechanism.
The
cosmetics of this lens are superior. It's clean and the paint is in
good tact. The bright metal is satin finished and bears only minor
marks. Mechanically it's excellent; the diaphragm is smooth and sure,
the focus is tight. In fact the Takumars are notorious for especially
stiff focus rings. Optically it's has a linear mark in the glass just
off center of the front element (see photos). Otherwise the glass is
crystal clear and free from coating marks or apparent internal dust.
The TAKUMAR 35mm f/4 ships with it's original front and rear lens caps and leather lens case.
