Soviet Award Medal (Badge) for those who participated in the clean-up after the Reactor Meltdown in Chernobyl.

In UNISSUED CONDITION and includes ORIGINAL STORAGE / ISSUE BOX.

This is GUARANTEED 100% Original official Soviet issue item from late 1980s, NOT a recent replica!

The medallion is 36 mm wide, 40mm tall not including the suspension device. Made in solid brass with gold finish and high quality "hot baked" enamels. The suspension shows the raised logo of the Moscow Mint (MMD) on reverse.

This badge has striking imagery: Red Cross with a drop of blood on blue in the center, punctured by the Gamma, Beta, and Alpha rays. The writing in the black band is "To a Participant of the Liquidation of the Consequences of the Accident, ChAES (Chernobyl Atomic Power Station)."

The badge is in NEAR MINT, UNISSUED condition, shows neither any tarnish to the gold finish nor wear to enamel. Includes original suspension with clean ribbon, connecting link holding the medallion and fully functional pin attachment. The badge comes with original issue / storage BOX in cardboard and with ORIGINAL WRAPPING PAPER, exactly as it left the factory.

Awarded by the Soviet government to heroic firefighters, policemen and workers - many of them volunteers - who had come from all parts of the Soviet Union to participate in the rescue and clean-up efforts.  They often worked at or in the immediate vicinity of the reactor site with little or no protection from the deadly radiation.
