This medal shows St Joseph lovingly holding the Christ Child. A lily symbolizing purity is on his left, and his carpenter's tools with a dove are visible on his right. This inscription is in Latin and reads "St Joseph Ora Pro Nobis" (Saint Joseph Pray for Us". This is a replica of a medal designed by Fernand Py. He was a French medal artist who was known for his unique stylized designs and depictions of the saints.

St Joseph was the husband of the blessed Virgin Mary and foster-father of her son, Jesus. After the magi visited Mary and the baby Jesus in Bethlehem, Joseph took take the family to Egypt to escape the massacre of young children ordered by Herod, the ruler of Judea. He sought to kill the "new king" whose birth he heard about from the visiting wise men. Upon their return to Nazareth the Bible states that Joseph was a carpenter, and presumably he also taught Jesus his trade. Because he loved and provided for Mary and Jesus throughout his life, St Jospeh is the patron saint of fathers, workers, and a heavenly protector of the Church.
