USS Sanderling (AMc-11) was a coastal minesweeper of the United States Navy. The ship was built in 1937 as the wooden purse seiner New Conti di Savoia by the Harbor Boat Works, Terminal Island, California; was purchased for U.S. Navy use on 28 October 1940 from the New Conti di Savoia Fishing Corp., San Pedro, California; converted to a coastal minesweeper by the Al Larson Boat Shop, San Pedro, California; and placed in service as Sanderling on 18 April 1941.

Based at San Diego, Sanderling conducted local minesweeping and patrol operations in the 11th Naval District until placed out of service on 18 September 1944.

Mae Weigand was a First Day Cover Cachet Artist who began her work in the late 1930's. Cachet artists emerged a few years after the United States Post Office started to issue FDC's to interested parties and Philatelic's. Mae Weigand was one of a handful of artists to commercialize the movement around the mid-century. The most practical medium used was graphite/pencil, pen and ink, or thinned paint, and are also known as Hand Painted Cachets or Hand Painted First Day Covers.

In general, postal history items will be in fine / very fine condition. Many like FDC's will be in excellent condition. Standalone stamps will be described. Additional information upon request. Just message me! Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for your purchases!
