Vtg Abstract Asymmetric Cantilevered Layered Sterling Silver Taxco Ring w Chrysocolla + Azurite Stone. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail Small Flat Rate Box.

This is a stunning asymmetrical cantilevered, very modern sterling silver ring with a large oval Chyrsocolla cabochon from Mexico.

Although minimalist, it is stunning in my view.  Chrysocolla happens to be one of my favorite stones and, in particular, chrysocolla that has elements of azurite or malachite in it.  This one certainly has azurite in it.  I believe, it may also have malachite.  The stone is exquisite in my view.

The Mexican artisan who created this ring set the stone against a very streamlined, but elegant sterling silver wrap shank and in a streamlined sterling silver bezel.

Then came the stroke of genius, in my opinion:  He (or she) set the chrysocolla stone and bezel atop the shank at an angle, so that it extends over the side of the shank as though it were cantilevered.  To add to the cantilevered effect, the top of the shank extends or flares out in the opposite direction.  This creates an exquisite and, in my experience, unusual profile.  I have tried to show this in the 1st, 3rd and 6th photos.

At present, the ring is a size 8 1/4.  It could easily be sized either up or down because the shank is a wrap shank.  You could have your jeweler size it down by wrapping the shank tighter.  Or, you could have him or her size it up by unwrapping the shank and creating a space between the two ends.

Silver Marks:  There are several inside the shank.  It says "925" for sterling silver, "Mexico" for the place of origin and it has an Eagle Mark with a number inside it.  The number looks like either a "2" or a "3."  The fact that it has an eagle mark means that the ring dates from between 1948 and 1978.

There is also a series of initials before the word "Mexico," but I cannot read them with any certainty.  My best guess at present would be that the initials read either FCM or ECM, but I have not yet been able to definitively identify the silversmith associated with the initials.  All I can say is that, in my opinion, he or she has created a little masterpiece.
