Shooting Star FT-547, named "Evil Eye Fleagle / Miss Barbara Ann" was assigned to the 8th Fighter-Bomber Wing based at Suwon Air Base. Lockheed P-80 Shooting StarDesigned around the blueprint dimensions of the de Havilland H-1 B turbojet, the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star was first flown on January 8, 1944. The P-80's design team developed the airframe to accept the British engine, even though they did not have access to one. The P-80 was the US Army Air Forces' first operational jet fighter, and the world's first operational jet fighter to have a single engine integrated with the fuselage. The P-80 was used extensively in Korea (as the USAF F-80) and claims the distinction of being one of the first two aircraft to fly in jet-vs-jet combat (the other was a MiG-15).© Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
