Crystal CS5390-KP ADC IC for Lexicon PCM80/PCM90

The Lexicon PCM80 and PCM90 use an 18-bit CS5389-KP analogue-to-digital converter. This can occasionally fail (especially if a power supply problem causes one rail to disappear), with replacements hard to find.

The CS5390-KP is the 20-bit version of the CS5389-KP and works fine in all CS5389 applications. The PCM simply ignores the extra two bits of data that are added to the datastream, and everything else is the same - they are a drop-in replacement. Presumably the better devices were just a bit more expensive back in the '90s!

We (Benden Sound Technology) use these ICs ourselves to repair Lexicon PCM units and can verify that they work 100% and pass all audio quality tests. They are genuine old stock from a US supplier and have been stored in their original antistatic tubes.

Cheaper devices offered by Chinese suppliers on eBay are - in our experience - a risky purchase since fake devices are widespread, especially with rare parts.
