James Bond's Aston Martin DB5

Launched in 1963 and often billed as the 'most famous car in the world', James Bond’s Silver Birch DB5 is surely the most recognisable car featured in a James Bond movie.

The DB5 shares many similar features to the DB4. However, the most substantial changes occurred under the bonnet where the engine capacity was increased to 4 litres, driving through an all-synchromesh 5 speed ZF gearbox. A top speed of over 140mph was achieved from this DOHC straight six producing 282 bhp @ 5500 rpm and 280 lbs-ft of torque @ 4500 rpm.

Aston Martin's first DB5 prototype with chassis number DP/216/1 was fitted with a passenger ejector seat, bullet-proof shield and machine guns before making its debut in 1964's Goldfinger.

Further appearances of BMT 216A were made as the Silver Birch DB5 returned in Thunderball and Skyfall.
