BSA A10 Golden Flash

Launched in 1949 the A10 Golden Flash was BSA’s answer to post-war austerity. Although not designed as a fast machine it was a strong performer at the time with a 650cc parallel twin producing 35bhp at 4500rpm and capable of over 100mph.

Available in a strikingly optimistic gold colour which gave it its’ name, the Golden Flash was an export success with the majority going to the US with a more conventional colour scheme of black and chrome eventually released for the home market.

A rigid rear frame was available but the comfort of the new plunger suspension proved more popular, particularly with export orders. However, concerns over uncertain handling led to a revised frame being introduced in 1954 incorporating a swinging arm.

The A10 Golden Flash was steadily upgraded whilst providing the basis for other performance models such as the 1954 A10 RoadRocket; the 1957 Super Rocket and the famed Rocket Gold Star of 1962.

The A10 was discontinued in 1961 with the A10-derived Super Rocket and Rocket Gold Star remaining in production.
