Jerry Garcia's Tiger

Custom-made for Jerry by Doug Irwin in the late seventies, this was Jerry’s main guitar for ten years. The body was produced using a technique used at Alembic known as a ‘hippie sandwich’ which involved creating the body from laminations of cocabola, maple and vermillion with a maple core. The maple neck has an inlaid ebony fretboard and carries a hardwood section set into the back. The combination of heavy wood and brass binding and hardware results in a weight of over 13lbs which contributes to the deep rich sound. Unique electronics also feature strongly with a Unity Gain Buffer and effects loop,  five-way selector switch,  volume and tone controls.  The pickups were a DiMarzio SDS-1 single coil at the neck with DiMarzio Dual Sound humbuckers in the middle and bridge positions, later changed to Dimarzio Super II’s. Jerry played Tiger in a live performance for the last time on July 9th 1995.
