Although King George VI's Silver Wedding was celebrated in 1948, it was not until 1st August 1949 that the pair of Pitcairn stamps was issued, and what a commotion they caused !!
Great Britain was still in an economic recession after World War Two ended, and it was thought that a TEN SHILLING STAMP, issued by a territory whose population was barely literate was an outrageous disservice to stamp collectors, and only a means of separating them from their hard-earned cash !! For this reason, VERY FEW positional blocks have survived.
THE 1½d BLOCK is from PLATE 1. The plate number is printed under stamp 59 on the sheet of 60.
THE 10-SHILLING BLOCK shows the Bradbury, Wilkinson printer's imprint below stamps 57 and 58. It appeared on the bottom of each pane of 60 in the sheets of 120 stamps.
