A really gorgeous heavily hand embroidered textile from France to commemorate their victory in World War I, it was stitched with heavy embroidery including the French flag and bits of the British and US flags in the corners. The beautiful lettering is done in gold and silver metallic threads that are beautifully oxidized from age.  The words are "Gloire Au Vainqueurs 1914-1918" which translates to  "Glory to the Victorious 1914-1918".  It has very light stuffing and is backed in white silk (perhaps done later?).  The whole piece is edged in 4"-wide hand made bobbin lace.

The condition is, remarkably, excellent.  There is some very light yellowing.

25" x 26"

This would be amazing in a frame!
