Jess Rollin Lord passed away on December 27, 2006, the day before his 95th birthday. He was born in Silverdale, Kansas. He came of age and began working at the beginning of the Great Depression. He painted houses, hung wallpaper, managed a paint store, and was an artist on a building at the Texas Centennial Fair of 1936. He manufactured and distributed his own "Lord's Cracked Wheat Cereal", did architectural work and built houses. He became an American Airlines Pilot and became the first pilot to fly blood plasma into Paris after it was liberated after World War II. After nearly a decade there, he became a contractor, then owned and operated his own oil drilling business. Then at age 45, he went back to school and earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D degrees. He taught sociology in three different universities. Upon his retirement he became a gallery recognized potter, painter, writer and golfer. This cup is really is a lovely piece, whether it finds it's matched set, or is used alone, the colors and "softness" of the piece is what is eye catching and beautiful. It measures 4" inches tall, and 3 1/4" inches across at the top. It is most likely dated to the late 1980's
