ABOUT THIS ISSUE: To finish the year with a flourish, editors WILLIAM EMERSON and OTTO FRIEDRICH decided to put out a special issue. Numerous topics were sug- gested, but it was editor THOMAS CONGDON who came up with the theme Love in America, and he was promptly put in charge of developing the issue. After spending three long months on the national phenomenon, Congdon is looking forward to devoting some time to his local loves: his wife, Constance, and their two young daugh- ters... . The historical look at love in America is by ARTHUR SCHLESINGER JR., whose book about President Kennedy, A Thousand bays, won him a Pulitzer Prize in 1966.... America's love- less are described by NORMAN ROSTEN, whose lat- est book of poems, Thrive Upon the Rock, was recently published by Trident Press.... The love map of the IT. S. A. was painted by BLAKE HAMPTON, who produced the Ben Franklin cover for the first Post issue of 1966.... ANN BAYER, an attractive young associate editor, sol- emnly maintains that every word of the story of her experiences with dating by computer is the truth.... After the Elmo Roper interviewers had fed their questionnaires into the computer, editor SANDFORD BROWN took the resulting statistics and marshaled them into an article. He wrote from a hospital bed -- he was undergoing some tests -- and it is reported that, when he finished, his room was knee-deep in number-speckled paper. . . . WAYNE MiLLER, whose photographs document Time Seven Ages of Love, has published a book called The World Is Yung, a photographic exploration of childhood. / Cover photo by DAN WYNN.
