REPORT OF SAVANNAH RIVER LUMBER CO
Your directors submit the following report of the Savannah River Lumber Co. and subsidiary companies for the nine months period of reconstruction and reorganization from April 1 to December 31, 1916, inclusive.
The Savannah River Lumber Co. was organized in April, 1916, and purchased at foreclosure sale the properties of The Hilton-Dodge Lumber Co. at that time in the hands of receivers. The actual operating control of these properties, however, was not taken over by your management until during the month of May.
The properties consisted chiefly of fee lands and timber leases covering pine, cypress and hardwood timber, logging equipment and rails, and seven mills, of which only three were running, namely, Wiggins, S.C. and Darien and Brunswick, Ga. The four mills which had been shut down, Mill Haven, Vale Royal, Ceylon and Belfast, all in Georgia, were studied as separate operations with due regard to the timber back of each mill.
Vale Royal, located in Savannah, and with a large amount of cypress and ash timber back of it, was put in good operating condition and has been running since July.
