Gloriosa superba is a vining herbaceous perennial in the Colchicaceae family. Common names include fire lily, flame lily, glory lily, gloriosa lily, climbing lily, and creeping lily. It is native to tropical areas in southern Africa and Asia and has been naturalized in Australia. There is 12 genus in the family. It grows to around 3-6 feet tall and will travel by tubers out to 10 feet. These will do well if they are protected from the wind but do like plenty of water. The flowers are a sight to see. I have seen some come out with different colors on one flower, all red, and another red and yellow flower on the same plant. It prefers to grow in part shade in most soils. It can be a container plant but will need something to grow up. Zones 9-11

Germination

Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours to remove the outer skin. Sow in moist peat 1/2" deep and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Cover seeds with plastic to create humidity and keep temperatures around 70-80F. Germination is in 30-90 days.
